H. LAWTON, III, BECOMES NATIONAL COTTONSEED PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
Edgar H. Lawton, III of Hartsville, South
Carolina, became the 112th President of the National Cottonseed Products
Association (NCPA) at the closing session of their Annual Convention in
Destin, Florida. Lawton is currently President and Treasurer of the
Hartsville Oil Mill.
Lawton joined the company in 1983 and was
appointed to his current position as President in 2000. The Hartsville
Oil Mill was organized in 1900 by his great grandfather, J.J. Lawton,
and is headquartered in Darlington, South Carolina. Lawton succeeded his
father Edgar H. Lawton Jr. and his grandfather Edgar H. Lawton Sr. in
this position.
Lawton has served on the Research &
Education and Rules Committees of the NCPA, and is a current member of
NCPA's Board of Directors. He also serves as a Cottonseed delegate and
Board member to the National Cotton Council and is a member of the
American Oil Chemists' Society.
He received his BA in Economics from the
University of Richmond and his MBA from Wake Forest University.
The NCPA was established in 1897 and is
the national trade association for the cottonseed processing industry.
Association membership also includes refiners, which process cottonseed
oil into semi-finished and finished products, dealers and brokers who
market cottonseed products, and commercial laboratories that provide
grading, quality control, referee and other services.
Major services of the Association are the
administration of trading rules and standards, foreign market
development for cottonseed products, internet resources www.cottonseed.com,
www.cottonseedoiltour.com
and www.espanol.cottonseed.com,
and acts as an information service center for members on
legislation, statistics, government regulations, court decisions, and
other factors affecting their business.
